Attic bedrooms are the perfect place for a whole heap of Modern Country Bedroom Style. With none of the practicalities needed of the downstairs: no children's needs to take into account, no worrying about sticky fingers on the wall - thisd is a place to make all your dreams come true! I am still as besotted with our loft conversion bedroom as I was on Day One.

I wanted simplicity, cosiness and a relaxed Modern Country bedroom vibe that would make us feel as though we were coming into a whole other world when we entered the room.

I always recommend to Modern Country Style clients who have young children that they concentrate on their Master bedroom first. They're sometimes initially sceptical – most are eager to get on with the more visible rooms on the ground floor – but ALL are thoroughly convinced when I've taken them through my reasoning. You will not believe the difference that creating a perfect Modern Country bedroom to look forward to at the end of each day makes to your life. Getting a good night's sleep in a wonderfully comfortable bed, and waking up each morning to a room that makes you smile will increase your quality of life beyond belief, particularly in the delight-filled but busy years of having a young family when you need all the help you can get to relax in the evenings!

I love the beams in our attic bedroom, part of the original roof structure.

Modern Country bedroom must-haves most definitely include a bed piled with plump pillows, a sumptuously luxurious quilt and a touch of the artisan to make this space uniquely yours. The great joy of working with attic bedrooms is that they often have beautiful old beams, and interior quirks such as sloping ceilings that add enormous amounts of character and warmth.

A muted shade on the walls, in our case a gorgeously muddied grey-blue-green, which I still find jaw-droppingly beautiful, completes the room. Modern Country bedrooms are, without doubt, the place not to skimp on paint quality. This is the place where you should need no encouragement to spend time luxuriating – deliciously pared-back paint colours make all the difference in the world.

Onto more practical attic bedroom issues....windows treatments. As I said in my previous post, you have a number of options. However, we went with black-out VELUX blinds and, truly, these are one of the best choices in the whole room, in terms of sleep-quality! They keep our bedroom super-dark when we're asleep. We chose our blinds in a soft off-white (I suspected that pure white might age to grey). When they're open you don't even notice that they're there, maximising the simplicity of our Modern Country bedroom.
